When to stop waiting?
We stand on the platform's edge, very sudden. Ladder already climbed. Summer. Big pond below, waiting to eat us up. The water has not kept up with the season.
"Jump!" they call. "Jump."
Not ready to jump. We did come up here to jump. Some ladders are one-way. Gotta play it cool, maybe tie the drawstring on our trunks... it's already tied.
Look up. Vast.
"Come on.... Jump."
This doesn't feel right. Who are we listening to? Others have jumped. We have seen this. We have not jumped... but we have heard.
"Don't be a pussy."
We consider being a pussy... a possibility. No, that isn't right.
"They're not going to jump."
We're definitely not going to not jump. But not after they said we won't. We'll show em'... in a minute.
We jump. We happened.
