I was a Rhetoric student around the same time you were teaching and I wish other professors had done the same.

What I wouldn't give to be able to listen to Felipe G. talk about Pirates of the Caribbean again. What a joy it was.

I bought Poetical Dictionary from SPD books, had it delivered to my grandmother-in-law in Texas and shipped on to me (SPD included a random text about ancient greece for free ... nice touch).

Haven't read a text the same way since Death of the Author.

I also learnt how to do things with words ....

A couple of years on and I am now a political speechwriter and long for the day when I can start a sentence with but and write something like, "Here's a man who sold his daughter's last kidney to buy himself a new groin-appears on TV to appeal for funds to buy little Sally an artificial kidney and give her this last Christmas. On his arm is a curvaceous blond known apparently as Bubbles. She calls him Long John; now isn't that cute?"

But it is not to be. Still, those lectures changed my life. So, from a soon to be middle-aged public servant from Australia, and fellow tequila lover, many thanks!Glennhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13314597956943081379noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7461948747659071092.post-13883259345276546832013-02-19T14:50:42.368-08:002013-02-19T14:50:42.368-08:00Finally
